What is the PM Surya Ghar scheme?
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a central government scheme that gives financial support to households that install rooftop solar. The aim is to help families cut their electricity bills and use clean energy.
How much subsidy is available

Basic eligibility
- An Indian household with a valid electricity connection
- A roof of your own that is suitable for solar panels
- No earlier solar subsidy taken for the same connection
How the process works
- You register on the national portal, or we do it with you.
- We survey your roof and give you a quote.
- We install the system through the approved process.
- The utility inspects and commissions the system with net metering.
- You upload bank details and the subsidy is credited to your account.

How much subsidy can I get on rooftop solar?
Under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, the central subsidy for homes is about Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 18,000 for the third kW, up to a maximum of Rs 78,000. Please check the official portal for the latest rates.
Who is eligible for the rooftop solar subsidy?
Generally an Indian household with a valid electricity connection and a suitable roof of its own, that has not already taken a solar subsidy. Rules can change, so we verify eligibility at the survey.
When does the subsidy come to my bank account?
After the system is installed, inspected and commissioned, and the details are verified on the portal, the subsidy is credited directly to the bank account you have registered.
Does the subsidy apply to shops and factories?
The central home subsidy is meant for residential households. Commercial systems have different options, which we explain in the proposal.
